Technical Award to Center
The CP Tech Center was awarded the Marlin J. Knutson Award for Technical Achievement at the American Concrete Pavement Association Annual Convention in December 2006. This prestigious award is given annually to an individual or group who has made significant contributions to advance the development and implementation of innovative technical best practice approaches in the design and construction of concrete pavements.
Two-Lift Paving Program
In cooperation with the FHWA, the center is facilitating a Two-Lift Concrete Paving Construction program. A framework is being developed, with a number of DOTs indicating interested in trying this technology in their state.
Two-lift construction involves the placement of two wet-on-wet layers instead of the homogenous single layer commonly placed in concrete paving. Two-lift construction may be used for a variety of purposes depending on regional needs. The process can use of recycled material, provide an economical approach in areas with scarce high-quality aggregates and sands, and can results in high-quality surface characteristics.
Project Wrapup
A number of CP Tech Center/FHWA cooperative agreement projects have recently been completed. These include Surface Characteristics Part 2, Curling and Warping Phase II, and Two-Stage Mixing. Search for these and other project under the project section of the CP Tech Center website.
